Kristie Leong M.D.

@DrKristieLeong

Bio: Physician, medical writer, health nut. I deliver straight talk about #Nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits..Staying healthy should be an adventure!

Reflection:

The first thing I would like to note right away is her social media bio. Twitter requires a bio to be short, so it can be difficult to fit everything you want to say about yourself. The reason I chose to follow Kristie is because of how she chooses to represent herself. "Staying healthy should be an adventure" caught my attention right away because it makes creating healthy habits seem to be exciting and positive. There tends to me a stigma of living healthy is a chore and too much work, but she immediately promotes it to be an "adventure" without even reading her posts yet. This applies to my website because I can learn from her, even though it's a short bio, on how to promote my own business in a positive way.

Jeanette's Healthy Living

Bio: Follower of Christ, Mom of 4 Boys, Publisher of Jeanette's Healthy Living. Inspiring families to cook healthy + delicious recipes for everyday living.

Reflection:

What I would like to reflect on here is the "Featured Boards" section Jeanette has on her Pinterest page. It is a gallery on her pins set to a slideshow, highlighting the parts of her business that she wants people to see first. I do not have a featured section on my Pinterest page. Now that I see how it can be used to promote particular topics, it is definitely something I can apply to my own website. I think the best use for this function is to promote healthy recipes on my own Pinterest page. This social media is an interesting one, and it would not be good to promote products on. I want to try to get people to eat healthier and cook healthier, so I think this slide show gallery feature would help me out a lot.

Instagram

@iamgalla

Bio: iamgallagetting caught up in the n i g h t

Reflection:

This instagram page is all about men's style. He promotes his business by showing what are the trends for men's clothing and accessories. The big thing that stood out to me is he features himself in almost every one of his posts. Rather than posting other models/people in trending clothing, he shows himself. I think this works great because then the viewers see that it is a legitimate business, and not something based off others work. Once I start promoting my own site, I will be sure to include myself more in the content vs. others.

Facebook

Forbes

Bio: The home page for the world's business leaders.

Reflection:

Forbes is a very popular business, with tons of content ranging from finance, to technology, to politics. I chose to follow their Facebook page to see how they promote budgeting and healthy spending habits. The content is great, but I see a big challenge that relates to my business. Sometimes a site can cover TOO many topics. Forbes is a very well-known site, so I don't think they have to worry about losing viewers too much, but with my own site being new, I need to make sure I don't go too broad with the business I am promoting.

Week 5:

Twitter

Online Health Media

@healthmediablog

Bio: Online Health Media is one of the leading health and wellness information platforms you can find online to improve your overall health and well-being.

Reflection:

What I really liked about this page is the variety of health-related content they post. I have read that in order to be successful, a business should be more narrow in the products/services they offer. For my business, however, I do not want to do that. I am trying to promote living a healthy lifestyle, which can have a very broad range. Online Health Media posts from healthy hair, to teeth, to fat loss, and so much more. I can learn from them by seeing how each posts connects with each other. Even though the topics may seem broad, each one seems to be connected in a way that focuses on what the business is trying to sell: a health and wellness platform.

Nike

Bio: Get the drills, gear and motivation you need to take your training to the next level.

Reflection:

Most of us are very familiar with this company. The reason I chose to reflect on Nike is because it is a clothing company that sells trendy and stylish workout clothing. Part of my business's focus is style and fitness, both of which falls under Nike's outlook. The first thing I immediately noticed when viewing the front page of their Pinterest is every post is a female model. I know Nike is very well-established, but I don't think this is the best marketing strategy for them. For my business, I am not targeting a specific gender, so I do not want my posts to reflect that. As I begin to post more content, I need to be aware of my target audience and be sure I accurately reflect who my business is trying to reach out to.

Weight Watchers

@ww

Bio: We inspire healthy habits for real life. For people, families, communities, the world—for everyone.

#WellnessThatWorks #WeAreWW

Reflection:

What I think worked very well that Weight Watchers did it they used "normal" looking people in their posts. Many health and fitness companies use models that a majority of people cannot relate to. By using  "standard" looking models, I think more people are attracted to the product. It shows that not just insane fitness people are interested in it, but the every day average joe used the product, as well. What I will take from this is I will try to use myself in what I am trying to sell. Not to get too deep, but I used to be overweight, have a horrible diet, and had a lot of trouble with my finances. If I can show a lifestyle transformation was successful for someone like me, hopefully it will inspire others to follow my lead.

Facebook

ILoveKickboxing

Bio: Our goal is to get you in the greatest shape possible in the quickest time possible, with the most amount of FUN! Our mission is to give you instructors who are passionate and inspiring - helping you to overcome your limits, and reach your goals fast.

Reflection:

I really think what works great for this company is what is in their mission statement: "Our goal is to get you in the greatest shape possible in the quickest time possible…" Many people today want to get in shape and live healthier, but either don’t want to or have the time commitment to do so. This is reaching out to the millions of people who are struggling with time commitment to show them that they can get into shape FAST.  I will try to use this business model to get more people interested in living a healthy lifestyle.

Week 6:

Twitter

FitnessFreaks

@fitnesslabvibes

Bio: FitnessFreaks encourage Female Fitness . Any query regarding nutrition feel free to DM us.

Reflection:

The reason I chose to reflect on this particular media page is because they have a narrowed target audience. Eventually, once I get more content on my site, I want to focus my content toward the male gender. The reason for this is because there is a plethora of content out there focused toward women's diets, exercise, and style. I think there could be more content that focuses on men's health and style. This media page shows me that it is okay to have a more specific target audience and that you can still be successful by doing so.

Pinterest

Urban Men Outfits & Fashion

Bio: Men's fashion tips. Cool outfits for guys. Male grooming tips -- the latest hairstyles and beard styles. Also: how to tie a tie, fold a pocket square.

Reflection:

Most of the reflections I complete usually outline the positives. However, I am actually going to speak on what doesn't work for this media site. The media had a lot of topics, but I feel there can be more. There are a ton of topics involved with men's style, and I think this social media could have more boards. I want to be able to reach everyone aspect of style, because I believe looking healthy is yet another way to live a healthy lifestyle.

Instagram

@thebudgetmom

Bio: Inspiring you to live a life you love on a budget you can afford. Accredited Financial Counselor®

Reflection:

I think this is a very interesting page, because it is hard to discuss a topic around finance and budgeting through pictures. Sure, you can show images of budget templates or proof of a savings account, I guess? I can learn a lot from this page. It shows that even topics that require a lot more written media than images can be expressed a different way. I think what works for her is how she presents her budgeting tips and advice. The owner uses pictures of dollar bills and visual representations of how she budgets. Who doesn’t like money? I want to learn more because her posts show me that she her budgeting techniques are working by showing me actual money.

Facebook

Beyond Diet

Bio: It's our mission to get over a million people and their families to shed their belly fat, fit into clothes that once were tight, have supportive friends, prevent diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and cancer just by eating delicious foods that are also good for them.

Reflection:

On top of just written posts, the owner here also posts videos. She has playlists, YouTube channels, and Live videos. In addition, her target audience is extremely similar to the audience I want to reach. So far, I have a strong shell of my website, and I am about to start blogging. It actually hadn't dawned on me that I should probably be doing more than just blog posts. By giving a variety of content, I think I would be able to reach more viewers, and hopefully inspire more people to live a healthier lifestyle.
